THE ACADEMY FOR THE BRAZILIAN CHILDREN

In 1994, the National Body for Development of Industry, Commerce and Handicraft ENVA, the European Academy for Economic and Cultural Relations is a department of,  organised a charity gala dinner with hundreds of guests at the Hilton Hotel in Rome. Special guest was Father Gianni Mometti who has been committed to the assistance of Brazilian leprous children for many years. The purpose of this event was a fund raising to help the missionary in a particularly delicate moment of his humanitarian campaign. Many representatives of the Italian show business and journalism accepted the invitation and showed their solidarity and approval of such an important initiative. One of them was the journalist Mino Damato who during an instalment of his popular show “Domenica In” had already dealt with the children of Father Mometti and who emphasized the significance of such an enterprise which is important not only for who receives assistance but also for who is called to responsibility.

Other leading personalities, such as the journalist Piero Vigorelli, Luciano Fraschetti, at that time managing editor of Giornale Radio Rai and today directing journalist of Rai TG3 and member of AEREC’s Honorary Committee, Prof. Giulio Tarro, member of AEREC’S Honorary Committee, Dr. Antonello, President of the Italian Autonomous Press Union, Princess Drago, representative of one of the most ancient and noble families in Rome, the singers Teddy Reno and Gino Santercole expressed their full adherence. Some stars of the show business offered an exciting performance.

At the end, the result: a very respectable sum for the children of Father Mometti was raised among the present and the exceptional objective of the Academy was achieved repaying it for all its hard work.
